My son LOVES PvP battlegrounds and is just now (with the random pug stuff) getting into instances too. Just looking at the blogging community you can see the wide range of things that interest people in the game and not even ALL of them are covered (although I think it is close.. :P ) I agree that WoW is amazingly different for many people. Just the raid stuff. They still are going to have patches and other things going on (There are still some holidays to go? [bleh.. one of the things I just can't get into]). Yah.. It works for the hardcore gamer, and the casual player as well. Also, as some people started at different times (or like me, started, stopped, started again) there were different times of varying levels of excitement. Maybe Cataclysm should have come out a year sooner, but I think they hit the right balance of letting the world figure itself out. What’s always been amazing about WoW is how it’s a different game for everyone. It works for the hardcore gamer, and the casual player as well. Also, as some people started at different times (or like me, started, stopped, started again) there were different times of varying levels of excitement.

Maybe Cataclysm should have come out a year sooner, but I think they hit the right balance of letting the world figure itself out.
